BOSCAWEN PARK, TRURO (6TH AUGUST)
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
"Sunday in Truro," wrote Mr.Kipling, "....what a bloody brilliant day! Sod the cakes, let`s get some rawk`n`roll down us necks!"
Cornwall`s biggest free music festival took place once again at Boscawen Park on the banks of the peaceful River Fal. In beautiful summer sunshine, the sleepy end of Truro was woken to the loud rock sounds of local bands playing for free and raising tons of money for the homegrown charity, `Stevie`s Challenge`. From 11am until 9.30pm, non-stop music could be heard echoing across the river and filling the humid atmosphere with riffs and rhythms as the cream of local talent blasted their music out to the world. By placing two flatbed lorries end to end, two stages had been created for the bands and as one played the other could be set up, thus creating an almost seamless run of performances that entertained the happy weekend crowd without the need for piped interlude music.
In the unenviable pole position came The Good, The Bad and The Ugly onto the second stage and started the day`s event with some well chosen covers of middle-of-the-road rock classics that included both Tina Turner (guess which song?) and an early showing for The Doobie Brothers. The material wasn`t really reflective of what the day stood to produce, but it was professionally performed with gentle good humour and eased the Sunday morning away nicely, as the first people started to arrive on site.
A good start.
