THE FIRST ABUSE OF POWER!

A CLGR CD SINGLE REVIEW -

THE JOYS OF NOISE (feat. Contraband)

"St.Austell`s Burning" EP

The offshoot band from St.Austell`s kings of anarchic/politico punk; the journo-bating Contraband, (led by Sid Locksley), have issued their first four track punk explosion (released at the start of September) ...and it`s set to rattle the powers that be with its attack on the local stagnent council. Basically a two man outfit, The Joys of Noise consist of musicians Selwyn and Mogus, both of whom have been in old punk/thrash bands together since as far back as 1989 when they led the legendary Slavery and then Corpsegrinder. With lead vocals on the title track from Sid Locksley as his only contribution, this new set of tracks is all the work of The Joys of Noise - and what a cracking selection we have on this initial release from the duo.

The contentious lyrics of the title track have had to be heavily edited to avoid litigation, (there should be an uncut release available lads?), but the sentiment remains clear - the council should hang their heads in shame for making the residents feel this abused. Forcing a once great town to it`s knees and making Bagdad seem like a more attractive option in 2007.

However the greatest things about "St.Austell`s Burning" are the production quality and the tune - this is classic 70s punk in the vein of Crass/Exploited/Upstarts and Selwyn, the multi-talented man at the controls, has done a fine job on the desk with this new release. Being completely DIY, The Joys of Noise are happy to provide copies of this single to anyone on request and can be contacted on 07890213183 - txt them your address and they`ll get one out to you.

A free punk cd of this quality - has bloody christmas come early this year or wot?
